Keyword Search

"Do you have a copy of...?" "What books do you have by....?" "Do you have any books about....?" These questions are asked of booksellers many time a day and answering them requires numerous time consuming trips through the store, searching for books you think you saw "just yesterday or last week".

The Book Wizard Keyword Search, or Lookup, could answer these questions in seconds. During a keyword search, The Book Wizard simultaneously searches three fields, Title, Author, and Reference. A lookup will take from 1-3 seconds, even on a database containing 100,000 titles.

A keyword search is initiated by pressing the home key and typing a keyword or two from the title or author. You may use partial words and combine words from both the title and author field. For example, if customer asks if you have a copy of Charlottes Web by E.B. White, you could type the word charlotte and get the following result. To narrow down the selection, you could type char web or char white and get a smaller selection of books, containing only these characters. Within seconds you could tell your customer that you have two versions in hardcover and two copies in paperback. Notice that the price, and on hand quantities are clearly displayed along with the section of the store where the books can be found. The list can even be sorted by clicking on any one of the fields, i.e.,Title, Author, OH (On Hand), Org (Section). Just think how much time this one function could save in a day.

The Reference field is an eighty character field that can contain a variety of useful information about the book. You can enter words relating to the subject of the book, main character, illustrator, etc. Many booksellers use codes to indicate the list (S99 for Spring of 1999), or the issue of their newsletter or catalog in which the book was featured. This is especially useful when you want to review the sales history of a specific group of books.

The keyword search is available in the Register, Purchase Orders, Merchandise, and Special Orders files.
